The event featured solo performances, dynamic ensembles, choirs, and energetic bands, all showcasing the immense skill and passion of our students. Behind the scenes, the stage and lighting crews worked tirelessly to create an atmosphere that elevated every performance. The showcase was a testament to hard work, creativity, and collaboration. Year 10 Artists' Day at Tate Modern

On Monday 18th of November, Year 10 Art students embarked on a school trip to the Tate Modern. Students explored part of the gallery, focusing on abstract art and finding artworks that related to their interpretation of the topic of their current project "Abstract", creating links to different artist's work to expand their visual imagery. Students worked in small groups, taking pictures and creating tonal studies and thumbnail sketches of different art works. It was a very productive day, well done Year 10 Art students!

Year 7 Explore Global Biomes at Iconic Kew Gardens

Year 7 pupils had the opportunity to attend a trip to the Royal Botanical Gardens in Kew as part of our ongoing personal development curriculum. Kew Gardens, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is renowned for its extensive collection of plants and its vital role in global plant conservation and education. On 8th October, two Sixth Form students travelled to the town of Oswiecim in Poland as part of the Lessons from Auschwitz project run by the Holocaust Educational Trust. Riya (Year 13) and Aleyah (Year 12) joined 200 other sixth formers from schools across London in gaining a greater understanding of the Holocaust. Students studied individuals that were impacted by Nazi persecution and the role that camps like Auschwitz Birkenau played in the Holocaust.

Newnham College, Cambridge University: Inspiring Students to Aim High

This week, Newnham College visited Oaks Park to present an engaging and informative talk for year 8 and year 10 students exploring their post-18 options. The event aimed to empower students to think ambitiously about their futures and provided valuable guidance on the wide range of opportunities available to them. The talk began by emphasising that "it is never too early to think about what you want to do in your future." Students were encouraged to consider a broad spectrum of subjects and career paths, from the sciences and humanities. Students in attendance found the talk incredibly insightful. One remarked, "Very clear and gave me a good idea of all the subjects that are available," highlighting the comprehensive nature of the presentation. Norfolk Geogrpahy Trip - Part 1

Our GCSE geographers recently enjoyed two enriching days of fieldwork, delving into urban studies in Norwich and coastal dynamics in Cromer. The urban fieldwork in Norwich allowed students to explore city planning, architecture, and the impact of human activities on urban environments. In Cromer, students investigated coastal processes, erosion, and management strategies, gaining hands-on experience with geographical techniques. Additionally, the visit to the University of East Anglia provided an exciting opportunity to explore higher education facilities and stay overnight on campus, further broadening their academic horizons. Despite a few rain showers, the weather was largely cooperative, adding to the overall success of the trip. We eagerly anticipate our next fieldwork excursion next week, where students will continue to build on their practical knowledge and enthusiasm for geography.

This week we resumed our partnership with Medical Mavericks to deliver a number of workshops aimed to inspire our students to make more informed decisions about their career and give them an insight into the many roles within the NHS. The students who attended had the opportunity to participate in advanced and in depth sessions including loads of data collection, analysis & diagnosis activities including measuring blood vessel diameter & circumferences with an ultrasound, growth plates, experience vision difficulties, respiration rates, taking fake blood and recording an ECG and keyhole surgery.

Last week saw students from year 9 and 10 take part in a very successful and enjoyable visit to the city of Liverpool. This visit was part of our ongoing year of geographical leadership and was truly a highlight of events so far. After travelling to Liverpool by train from London, we spent the first day in the Royal Albert Dock area of the city. We visited the Maritime and the Slavery Museums, and toured the city on a (very wet) open top bus!

Oaks Park High School students and staff are celebrating a wonderful set of GCSEresults. Their achievement is testimony to the way that the year group have risen to the challenge of the return of public examinations and maintained focus and ambition throughout, despite the disruption to their studies caused by the pandemic. The outcomes reflected excellent progression for the pupils, for example, English achieved 85% grades 9-4, Maths 80% grades 9-4 and the majority of qualifications were above national average.

GCSE Geography Trip: Norfolk July 2022

After a two year break, Y10 geographers were once again able to travel to Norfolk for their GCSE residential fieldwork trip. Over two trips, 180 students investigated how Norwich city has changed over time before heading to the University of East Anglia. Students then had tours of the university by the student ambassadors visiting the robotics labs as well as the Art School. This is also where the Avengers was filmed! Students were able to ask questions about student life and higher education before spending the night in the university halls.

Our annual Sports Day event took place on 4th July this year. Years 7, 8 and 9 competed in form groups in both track and field events. Competitors were not put off by the warm conditions and put in a great deal of effort to events on the day. While the winners took medals on the day, a huge congratulations must go to all the students that took part and those who got into the spirit and cheered their form members on from the sidelines.

On the 6th July students and staff gathered at the Prince Regent Hotel for Year 11's Prom. It was fantastic evening, celebrating the end of year 11 and the fact that GCSE exams were now over. Having not been able to hold a prom for the last two years the event was a welcome return. Students had a great evening, were dressed in style and took to the dancefloor with panache. Well done to the organising committee for all their hard work in putting the event together.

On a warm July evening. students, parents and staff gathered under our basketball canopy to celebrate the year's sporting achievements. Our guest of honour was London Pulse and former England international netballer Lindsay Keable. Lindsay awarded the prizes and spoke on the evening about her sporting journey and the effort and ressilience that is required in sporting persuits as in life. It was a great evening and testament to the commitment that students have shown this year and the dedicated organisation of the PE Department.

Anne Frank Trust Showcase Event 2021

On July 19th our 10 Anne Frank Ambassadors were invited to attend an online celebration event to showcase the incredible work they have created to supporters and members of the Anne Frank Trust all over the world. Hosted by Tim Robertson MBE, three of the Ambassadors (Sanya, Khanak and Yasmin) were interviewed live to discuss their work and talk about the video they had produced as a way to keep Anne's message alive and to educate their peers on ways everyone can be a little kinder. The Cape Town Genocide Centre and Daniel Mendoza OBE noted how powerful the video was and how impressed they were at the amazing work of Oaks Park Anne Frank Ambassadors, concluding that "Anne would certainly be proud". They look forward to working with the Ambassadors and Oaks Park over the coming academic year in further exciting opportunities to help them fulfill Anne's dream of a world free of discrimination.

A number of Year 12 students who were keen to promote diversity within our school and to raise money for a humanitarian charity, decided to plan a Culture Week at Oaks Park High School. The students put together an initial proposal and worked closely with the Headteacher and key members of staff to formulate a plan for the week. Year 7 & 8 Sports Day 2021

Despite the disruption to sport throughout this year we were able to run Sports Day for Years 7 and 8 on Wednesday 23rd June and Thursday 1st July. Firstly the field events took place on the wednesday where students competed in Javelin, Shot Putt, Discus, High Jump Triple Jump and Long Jump. The events�were all hotly contested, particularly with Year 8 where the form scores were all within 11 points leading into the track events on Thursday. Some stand out Year 8 performers were Ellis McMillan who jumped 1.50m in the high jump, Mohammed Bilal who threw 7.70m in the shot putt, Hadley Webster who jumped 3.49m in the long jump and Alexandra Cartin who jumped 5.32m in the triple jump. Year 7 also had some excellent performances including Sabian Leonce who threw 6.09m in the shot putt, Lauren Burton and Malik Alabede who jumped 5.82m and 5.98m in the long jump, and Sade Ajiga who jumped 1.28m in the high jump. World Mental Health Day

World Mental Health day took place on 10th October 2020. The theme this year was “mental health for all”. As a school, we have focused on returning to school following lockdown and supporting students with this. The pastoral teams have focused on highlighting the concerns that we are all facing and how to develop their resilience in this time of continual change.

The 2020 GCSE results were the best ever achieved by the school, demonstrating that attainment at Oaks Park High School remains outstanding.
